Family-Teen Mediation is a process which provides a neutral environment for teens and their parents to explore and work out issues and areas of conflict. The mediators are trained to have an ‘objective ear’ and will not take sides.
The role of the mediator is to help both parties of the dispute have uninterrupted time to listen to the other person’s concerns and in doing so create healthier boundaries and productive communication. The focus is on working on the problem, not fixing the person.

Barb Shannon has a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Registered Social Worker, with over 20 years of experience. Barb has extensive experience working in child welfare, education and for the Office of The Children’s Lawyer. Her area of interest includes; counselling students (12 years+), individuals, relationships, and families. Barb uses a variety of therapeutic modalities such as; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). Additionally, Barb has a certificate in Family Mediation (accreditation pending).
